“He stood on the beach and threw his fishing rod repeatedly into the water.”
Thus begins the story of a special friendship in the life of Entwistle.
“I went to him when he came in with the rod for the eighteenth time and asked in a cheerful tone of voice what on earth he was doing. He answered something like that the fish could catch each other if they borrowed the rod. Once they had, he could take over the rod and they could all become friends.”
How did you respond?
“I got tired of him right away.”
But this interview is about your lifelong friendship. Weren’t you friends at all?
“No. I loved him because of some berries he had in his pocket.”
