The Memory of Mrs Chornum

Mrs Chornum recollects when she had her portrait painted in a thoughtful moment. When the face was ready, a mysterious sound of node sheets being folded up was heard and the painter began singing so loudly that Mrs Chornum’s ears hurt. Then Mrs Chornum whistled and peas were served.

“It struck me that I knew a lot of things when that picture was painted. When I’m in doubt about where I left my gloves, I go and look at the picture of me.”
